Homemade Pizza Dough

I can honestly say this is the best homemade pizza dough!  It wasn't dry, it was just PERFECT!  My son absolutely loved it too, usually he doesn't eat the crust but he did this time :)  I found this recipe on Pinterest, along with some great tips for making pizza dough.  This recipe makes enough for 2 -12in. pizza's.  This beats frozen pizzas or even ordering pizza from a pizza place.  The main thing that you need to always have in your cupboard is ACTIVE DRY YEAST.  Everything else is pretty basic, plus whatever you want to put on your pizza.   No more ordering pizza for this house hold, this is way better and I'm sure half the cost of ordering pizza.

~Tips for the perfect pizza crust~
If you don't have a circular pizza pan, you can use an upside down cookie sheet.
You can also use a round stone.
Heat oven to 500 degrees with pans in the oven [this gives you  a crispy bottom like the restaurants]
Spread dough out on parchment paper, this helps with transferring it onto your pan and clean-up.

Homemade Pizza Dough

1 cup warm water (same temp as if you were giving your baby a bath, not too hot, not too cold)
2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
1 tablespoon honey
2 teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons Oil (if you want to make it fairly healthy use EVOO)

3 cups bread flour (if you want to make it fairly healthy try using wheat flour)

I used my kitchen aid mixer for this, with the bread hook. Put warm water in mixer bowl, add honey and yeast, mix. Sit for 5-10 minutes or until bubbles form and mixture starts to foam. This tells you that the yeast is alive and kicking. Pour in salt, oil and half the flour and mix.  Once the flour is incorporated, start adding flour in bit by bit until you get the pizza dough to the consistency you want: slightly tacky, but when you touch it it doesn’t stick to your hands.  Once you reach this stage, turn the mixer on high to knead for 6 minutes. Make sure that you let it knead for 6 minutes!  When finished the dough should be smooth and easy to work with.  Form a ball.  Lightly grease the bowl & the dough so it doesn’t dry out, cover with plastic wrap and let it rise 1-2 hours.

Cook in 500 degree oven, with toppings on it for about 7-9 minutes.

I will also post a recipe on how to make Cheesy Garlic Bread using this dough! (Yum-a-lum-a-ding-dong!)

Enjoy!

  1. I also have been doing lots of breads and doughs. Everything I have read says to store your yeast in the fridge instead of the cupboard. It's a lot cheaper to buy it bulk and store in the fridge than to buy the packets...just a thought...Love the blog-Sara L

  2. Thanks for the helpful hint Sara. I didn't even know that you could buy it in anything but a packet. I will definatly be looking for that next time i'm at the store! Thanks!
